 Biography

One of the most powerfully moving pieces of literature an Israeli child learns is a poem translated as “Eli, Eli”.  It has become a staple of Israeli/Jewish poetry, been turned into countless songs, and is performed at least ten times at each middle school poetry reading.  Hannah Senesh, a role model as a writer, woman, and soldier, serves as an amazing tool to help communicate the lasting power of a pen, journal, and one’s thoughts.  Her journal, kept throughout her time in pre WWII Europe, early Zionist kibbutz life, and captivity in a Nazi prison, can be used as an example of the importance of creative writing, poetry, and the eternal power of writing.
